Update on Lock Keeper's Cottage

How's this for a view of the old Lock Keeper's Cottage? Courtesy of Castlereagh Borough Council

Latest news on the Lock Keeper's Cottage and Visitor's Centre : there is a very real prospect of both opening sometime this summer. The visitor's centre will have a coffee shop which will include outdoor seating and will include toilet facilites (very much needed along the river).

Excavations at the Former Sirrocco Works on the Banks of the River Lagan

These pictures are of the archaeological dig which uncovered parts of Benjamin Edward's glasshouse and parts of the Smylie's glasshouse from the late 18th century. Also found on the site were two clay pipe kilns.

A Good News Story

A female Mallard was spotted close to one of the buildings at Lagan Weir, looking distressed and waterlogged. Staff at the Weir rescued her and Earlswood Vetinerary Hospital agreed to look after her.

24 hours later, after some food, a drip and some TLC she was able to be released by staff at the weir back into the river.

Thanks Earlswood !!!
